Windows Media Player 11 doesn’t start or some elements are broken
If you use Windows Media Player 11 and you get a message such as, “An internal application error has occurred”, the application doesn’t start or some elements of the application is blank and doesn’t show anything, there may be a fix for you. The problem is, is that some components are not fully registered with the system and so re-registering them should fix it.

Same problem as Mike. I get an error of 0×80004005 when trying to re-register wmp. HELP !!! There is no way to download wmp for Vista yet V 11.0.6000.6336 Other people had to use there “Upgrade Vista” disc that came with their computer, that was preloaded with Vista. They say it may work - It repairs the files and doesn’t actually upgrade you.

if people get that 0×80004005 error do this:
vista: go to acssories
then command prompt
right click run as admin
then type the first one click ok then the second one click ok and it should work
thanks again

Absolutely nice and simple. However, only that great gentleman or (woman) who made this simple solution available to us deserves the credit. THANK YOU SO MUCH BODY!

Glad to find this tip, though it didn’t solve my problem with WMP 11 in Vista. It did inspire me to try a new search in Google…
“Windows Media Player” register dll
One of the results took me to the page that finally helped me fix the problem…
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html
I tried “regsvr32 wmp.dll” and that finally did the trick for me.
Thanks guys for the help…I also got that 0×80004005 error as some of you did, but got through it with your tips.
Thanks again!

I’m afraid none of this has worked for me. Since I installed VLC Windows Media just wouldn’t open. I do get the 0×80004005 error, but when tried to fix it, nothing, and when I went to the file source it told me I had a 11.0.6000.6344 version on there so it couldn’t use the version of Windows Player I am using. I am confused… I could find no such other player on my pc. If anyone has any helpful suggestions I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Start -> typ in cmd.exe -> right click it and Run as Administrator -> type in regsvr32 jscript.dll -> press enter and click OK -> type in regsvr32 vbscript.dll and click OK -> done

I’m either being really computer illiterate or there’s a fundamental problem somewhere, so can anyone please help me! After I click on the Start button where do I click on ‘Run’?? I can’t see a ‘Run’ button anywhere. Please help, this whole WMP issue is driving me mad, it worked fine then it stopped suddenly, I got a guy at work to fix it for me and now it’s not working again!!!!
August 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
I did this… went to command prompt, right click, run as administrator and registered both dll files successfully, but I too have to do this every time I restart my computer. Does anyone have a permanent fix or will I always need to do this. Grrrrrrr, hate Vista!

I have the same problem that WMP 11(vista) refuses to respond when i run the program. its like i didn’t even activated it.
when i run these 2 commands in cmd.exe (as administrator) i get an error like this:
– Impossible to load module “jscript.ddl”. Make sure the binair file is saved in the given path. Track down the error by searching for trouble with the binair file or the dependant ddl-files.
Cannot find the given module. –
Can somebody please help me? I’m using other media programs but none are as good as WMP 11 …
greetings
